Security Tips For The Holidays

This Holiday season MPD has other specific warnings regarding smart phones thefts and robberies.

Electronic devices being used in plain view, such as IPHONE and DROIDs have been the target of several theft and robbery cases downtown. Please advise your security teams, employees, residents, and visitors to be aware of their surroundings. Attached is holiday safety tips that can be shared with your staff or tenants.


Unusual Behavior/MO

  • Pepetrators hanging around in groups of five our more watching for lone individuals using a Smart phone.
  • Typically they grab and run or assault the victim to get the phone.
Risk Indicators

  • Most incidents occur between 2100 to 0300.
  • Targeted areas are along Nicollet and Hennepin- often near bus stops.
  • Groups five or more loitering in the area.
Call to Action

  • If this type of behavior is seen, call 911 immediately.
  • If you are a RadioLINK user and see suspicious grouping activity please call it out via RadioLINK for further monitoring and support from the security groups.
  • Share the attached holiday safety tips with your security teams, employees or tenants.
  • Identify the victim if whenever possible.
  • Make a Police report based on the witness reports, even if you have no video, and no victim.  These cases will not always have an identified victim or video.
